The
power of the Atonement is something that I have felt in my life many times. It
is amazing to know that, because of the Atonement, we can repent of all of our
sins and become perfect. Although we will all continue to make mistakes and
sin, there is no sin (besides defecting to perdition) that the Atonement can't
fix. When I think about the great sacrifice that Christ made for me personally I am overcome by the amount of love that He must have for me. As I have gotten older and come to better understand the Atonement, it has given me a new perspective on life. Not only do I try to choose the right because it will bring me and my family joy, but I also do it because I don't want to cause Christ anymore pain. He suffered for each and every one of our sins (as well as all of our emotional and physical pain). Every sin that we commit adds more suffering to His load. I have found that as I keep that in mind, I am better able to watch my thoughts and actions and live in a way that would be pleasing to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

There is no greater expression of love than the heroic Atonement performed by the Son of God. Were it not for the plan of our Heavenly Father... all mankind - past, present, and future - would have been left without the hope of eternal progression.

I ask the Lord's blessings to be with us, that we
can understand the importance of the atoning sacrifice in our lives, that it is
the greatest event in all history. In fact, the Atonement was the very purpose
of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, coming to the earth.

For some reason, we think the Atonement of Christ
applies only at the
end of mortal life to redemption from the Fall, from spiritual death. It is
much more than that. It is an ever-present power to call upon in everyday
life.

Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God the
Eternal Father... His atonement paid for the sin of Adam and won victory over
death, assuring resurrection and immortality for all men.

We all make mistakes... It is then in our nature
to feel guilt and humiliation and suffering, which we alone cannot cure. That
is when the healing power of the Atonement will help.

In the quiet isolation of the Garden of
Gethsemane, He knelt among the gnarled olive trees, and in some incredible way
that none of us can fully comprehend, the Savior took upon Himself the sins of
the world. Even though His life was pure and free of sin, He paid the ultimate
penalty for sin - yours, mine, and everyone who has ever lived.

If Christ had not made His Atonement,
the penalties for mistakes would be added one on the other. Life
would be hopeless. But He willingly sacrificed in order that we may be
redeemed.
